My Story matters

Supplies: Example Kaleider timeline, blank paper, long paper, pens, markers, craft supplies

Preparation: Cut blank paper into even-sided squares. When the Novas are finished brainstorming, they’ll be able to turn them into origami.

  1. Show (don’t present) the example Kaleider timeline or visual method with which you decided to share your story.

  2. Read through discussion questions as a group.

  3. Discuss different options for creative expression of their stories.

  4. Instruct Novas to select a 1- to 2-year time frame to share about.

  5. Distribute blank paper for brainstorming and long paper for creating their visual stories. Set out craft supplies on table.

  6. Provide sufficient time for everyone to process and create their visual aids (perhaps through lunch or offer more time in the afternoon).

If a Novas seems stuck, here are some discussion questions to help jump start the thinking process:

  1. What’s a significant or important time from the last year?

  2. What’s a time that you felt really happy?

  3. What’s a time that you felt really sad or hurt?

  4. What was your favorite thing you did this year?

  5. What do you wish had gone differently this year?

  6. What are you most grateful for this year?

  7. What’s a time you relied on someone this year?

  8. What’s a time you felt alone this year?
