“even when I’m leading [tck club] I’m learning so much about myself!”
TCK Club is led by adult and young adult leaders like you. The weekly, online meetings provide third culture kids ages 6-16 with access to consistent debrief and ongoing friendships, all through fun, creative, and practical tools for a global life. This is awesome for literally everyone involved.
Roles we’re looking for:
TCK Club Leaders - Every club that we run has two leaders. These are the people who are front and center in our clubs. They’re the ones that plan our club activities (with help, when needed) and they’re the ones actually in our clubs making things happen. They facilitate communication between the kids, and they work to make sure that every kid is valued, loved and heard.
TCK Camp Counselors - Our second ever Virtual TCK Camp is coming up fast! Camp counselors help guide our breakout room discussions, play games with kids, and just all-around help us make sure our camp activities are a good time for the kids! Camp is only a 2 day event, so this is much less of a time commitment than our regular clubs, but still a great way to have a positive impact on kids around the world!
KLDSCP Interns - While leaders and counselors are the faces of our clubs, not every one wants to be front and center. If you’re looking for a way to use your skills to help TCKs around the world to feel valued, loved, and heard, but don’t want to lead a video call, you might want to look into one of our internships instead!
You Could be a good fit for the TCK Club team if:
You’re a TCK (must be 16 or older)
You’re not a TCK but value cross-cultural communication and learning
You want to work with TCKs but don’t know where to start
You’re familiar with Zoom and feel comfortable being goofy on video
You like getting out of your comfort zone
You work better with a partner than alone (for child safety every TCK Club has two leaders. No exceptions.) Read our child safety policies.
You are excited to learn new things
Okay. I need some more information.
No problem!
Let’s take a look a closer look at what each of our roles entails.
TCK Club Leader description:
Leaders are the ones that make club happen! Without them, there is no Club.
- a 6-week long introduction to TCK Club covering three major topics for kids who are growing up between cultures
- We provide training on the TCK Basics
- We provide 6 weeks of lesson plans
- We connect you with a co-leader
- We provide 6 weeks of lesson plans
- a 6-week long themed club on any of a variety of topics
- We provide basic training for how to run the club
- You create the lesson plans and activities
-
Requirements:
- A love of working with kids!
- Responsiveness to communications
- The ability to show up for your assigned club each week
Most of our Leaders start with TCK 101 as their first club. Since we already have the lessons laid out for them, 101 is an easy entry point for leaders so they can focus on learning how we use our platforms before they dive in to making their own Club lessons.
For themed clubs, both leaders participate in planning and running clubs, but there will often be one leader who does most of the talking and “leading” while the other handles more of the background tasks, like watching the chat or choosing the music.
We also have an All Leaders Meeting before the semester and mid way through the semester where we can address any concerns, as well as a semester debrief at the end where we go over how the semester went.
Camp Counselor Position
This is not all that different from our Club Leader position, but it’s much less of a time commitment!
This year’s camp is July 30-31, and has an ocean theme we’re calling a Deep Dive for Cross Cultural Kids. Counselors will be asked to join the kids in breakout rooms to help facilitate discussions, lead games, and generally be a fun presence over the two days of camp.
Internship Positions
This time around we are looking for a Social Media intern (social media marketing), a Graphic Design intern (website graphics, resource creation, t-shirt designs!), and a Camp Planning intern (getting all the moving parts of camp to line up!)
Each internship presents a different challenge and will need a different set of skills and interests to pull off.
F.A.Q.S
Q: Can I apply if I’m not 100% sure I want to do this?
A: Sure! If you’re offered a spot as an online TCK Club leader, the final step is to sign your Kaleider Kontract. Once you sign the Kaleider Kontract, we’re counting on you and you’ll start training and meet your co-Kaleiders. Before you sign the Kontract, you are free to change your mind!
Q: WHAT IS THE TIME COMMITMENT for tck club?
A: For TCK 101, the time commitment is about 8 hours over 6 weeks. About an hour of preparation and training before the session, 1 hour call each week, and about an hour of debriefing to wrap up the session. If you’re leading a themed TCK Club the time required will depend on how much time it takes to prepare for each week, we’re guessing 16-24 hours total over 6 weeks.
Q: Can I apply if I’m not a third culture kid?
A: Yes please!! We love our non-TCKs as much as (it not more than...shh, don’t tell!) our TCK Kaleiders. As someone who’s grown up in your passport country, you have the opportunity to show TCKs that even people who don’t share their background can love, accept, and connect with them. And you’ll have no problems teaching all of the curriculum, so don’t worry about that!
Q: What if I’ve never worked with kids before?!
A: First of all, we recommend you start by volunteering to co-lead a TCK 101 Club. Then, once you’re accepted you’ll get access to the Leaders Lounge at TCKclub.org where you’ll find all the training videos, lesson plans, and lots of great information and resources about TCKs and the TCK 101 curriculum. We’ve got you covered and we’ll walk through every step with you.
Q: Do i have to reapply if I’ve already been a Kaleider?
A: Short answer: yes. Long answer: we have a shortened Returning Kaleider Application to update your relevant info, and you may or may not need to interview again. Someone you know from the KLDSCP team will be in touch!
